CHARTER FAQ's

Q: I see a rate of $650 per flying hour, what does that actually mean? Why do I pay per flying hour and not per trip or leg?

A: Helicopters measure their speed in relation to the air that we fly in. This speed is called airspeed. Once the effect of a headwind or a tailwind is taken into account we then get what is called a ground speed. This is the speed made good over a one hour period as measured on the ground. Distances are measured in relation to the ground and thus using the formula; Ground Distance/Ground Speed=Time we then know how long a particular journey should take.

The thing is that once we start flying we often are asked to divert to look at various sites along the way. This is what helicopter excel in and why we have to charge for the actual time used by clients.

Q: Why am I restricted to soft luggage only?

A: Unlike aircraft helicopters generally have very small baggage areas. The small soft luggage is normally easier to fit into the smaller compartments. As a service to our clients we do offer to transport large luggage items via road for a small fee.
