About Akagera National Park
Akagera National Park is Rwanda’s largest national park, located in the eastern part of the country along the border with Tanzania. Unlike Volcanoes National Park, which is known for its gorillas and mountainous terrain, Akagera is a savanna park with lakes, wetlands, and rolling plains. It’s home to the Big Five (lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, and buffalo), as well as giraffes, zebras, hippos, crocodiles, and a variety of antelope species.
Akagera is a great place for game drives, boat safaris on Lake Ihema, birdwatching, and even night safaris. The park has been revitalized over the years, with African Parks helping restore wildlife populations and improve conservation efforts.
